Reticulation System

To enable farmers to obtain a sufficient supply of water two crops of rice per year, MADA has implemented a system called the Reticulation System. Through this system, water stored in the reservoirs will be released from Pedu Dam and channelled through the Pedu River/Padang Terap River and from Ahning Dam channelled through the Padang Sanai River/Padang Terap River. There are several tributaries that flow into the Padang Terap and Pedu Rivers. Among the largest tributaries are the Padang Sanai and Naka Rivers.

The water flow chart below shows the reticulation system for the entire irrigation system in the Muda area. Water from the Pedu Dam takes an average of 19 hours to reach the Pelubang Bifurcation where the water is divided to the Northern Canal and the Central Canal. If there is surplus water from the tributaries, the water will be stored in a head pond upstream of the Pelubang Regulator. Water flowing into the main canals is maintained at the level required by the 17 regulators at specific places. The amount of water flowing downstream can also be controlled by these regulators. For example, water from North Pelubang will be channelled directly to the Arau Regulator through the Jitra and Lana Bulu Regulators. Between Pelubang (North) Regulator and Jitra Regulator, water will be distributed to the secondary reticulation system, i.e. at Jitra Off take and after that, water is channelled to Control A (Telaga Batu) until Control C (Kubang Sepat).

 

1For the Central Canal, water is channelled to the Lengkuas Siphon, Jabi Regulator, Senara Regulator and after that to Tokai Regulator through Guar Kepayang Regulator. For the Southern Canal, the distribution of water starts from the Guar Kepayang Regulator and channelled through Pondok Chegar and then to Jenum Regulator until the water arrives at Guar Chempedak Regulator. Water will enter the rice fields through prepared feeder pipes and flow from plot to plot until the entire irrigation block is covered to ensure that each irrigation block receives sufficient water.
