Based on the results of soil analysis in Region IV, the average pH value in the area is below the scale of 5.0 and still need a soil fertility rehabilitation program so that the pH value can be increased closer to the appropriate pH for rice crops which is around 5.5 – 6.5

LAND REHABILITATION PROGRAM THROUGH LANDING ACTIVITIES IN YOUNG AREAS

Muda area is the main rice granary in Malaysia which accounts for almost 40% of the country’s paddy production. This area covers the sea lanes of Kedah and Perlis with a total area of ​​100,685 hectares and is a traditional paddy cultivation area in northern Peninsular Malaysia that has been cultivated for 50 years through paddy cultivation twice a year.

In order to increase the production of paddy yield, soil fertility is one of the main factors that need to be considered because the cultivation activities that have been undertaken for a long time also affect the level of soil fertility in Muda area. Through this soil profiling project, the nutrient content in the soil in the Muda area can be known and further classification is made into fertile, moderately fertile and less fertile areas. The classification of areas according to the level of fertility is very important because the planning of programs related to land rehabilitation and yield increase can be made more accurately and effectively in ensuring the sustainability of rice production and further guarantee the income of farmers who cultivate paddy in Muda area.

Among the soil rehabilitation programs that can be carried out is through paddy field limiting activities to increase soil pH and further increase the efficiency of nutrient uptake by paddy crops because the soil condition has been restored.

 

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RICE FERTILIZATION SCHEME PROGRAM (SBPKP) AND RICE PRODUCTION INCENTIVE SCHEME (SIPP)

Under the Federal Government Paddy Fertilizer Scheme (SBPKP) was first introduced by the government in 1979. Through this SBPKP scheme, all registered farmers will be given two (2) types of fertilizer, namely Compound fertilizer (17.5: 15.5: 10) at a rate of 12 bags / hectare and Urea fertilizer (46% N) of 4 bags / hectare.

Apart from that, starting in 2008, the Paddy Production Incentive Scheme (SIPP) was introduced with the provision of subsidized assistance, namely NPK Supplementary fertilizer (17: 3: 25) at the rate of 6 bags / hectare, plowing incentive assistance at RM100 / hectare and pesticide incentives at the rate of RM200 / hectare. To date there are 71 types of pesticides that have been listed under the SIPP subsidy consisting of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, snail pesticides and rat poisons.

IMPLEMENTATION OF SBPKP AND SIPP PROGRAMS IN YOUNG AREAS

The implementation of government subsidy assistance in Muda area is based on the implementation manual set by the government. A summary of the implementation of SBPKP and SIPP programs in MADA is as follows:

New Paddy Crop Technology

The problem of labor shortage is an issue that is getting worse, especially in the MADA cultivation area. This problem is compounded by the issue of low labor productivity and low commitment. This labor problem has forced farmers to use the illegal labor of foreigners. This increasing demand has also led to an increase in costs where the poisoning wage for 1 hectare of paddy fields has reached RM80.00 per hectare. For farmers who poison 5 times a season, the cost of poisoning wage for 1 hectare is RM400.00.

In this regard, As the leader of the country’s rice industry, MADA has identified a new technology that has the potential to overcome the problem of manpower in this industry, namely Agriculture Drone (AD)
